'Faith and the Sexual Health Strategy'

Posted Aug 19, 17:43

Friday 22 August at 12.30pm, Committee Room 1, Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh

Since its publication in 2005, “Respect and Responsibility”, Scotland’s first sexual health strategy, has provoked widespread discussion; eliciting a variety of responses ranging from controversy and criticism to high praise. One issue in particular, the role which faith and religious belief plays in sexual health promotion, has permeated much of the public discourse on this issue: generating both column inches and divided opinions. But is the perception of sexual health and faith as two opposing forces, a true one?

If you would like to air your views, this public debate on the strategy is being held as part of the Festival of Politics. The event is open to the public and will include a question and answer session.

Patrick Harvie MSP, convener of the parliamentary group on Sexual Health, will be joined in conversation with leading theologian Professor Philip Sheldrake to explore the issues of faith and sexual health.

Tickets are free (£1 booking fee applicable online) in advance or on the day. Please see the Festival of Politics website HERE for more details.
